The Dinner Party by Judy Chicago

By Shivikaa Gupta, Grade 7

Art can be used for many different things–for fun, to express something, to understand who you are. Artists across the world also use their work to bring attention to the problems in today’s world. For instance, Judy Chicago, an American feminist artist, art educator, and writer, is known for her large collaborative art installation pieces about birth and creation images that examine the role of women in history and culture. She made the artwork “ The Dinner Table”

“The Dinner Table” signifies women's history and accomplishments. It is a massive triangular table measuring 48 feet on each side with thirty-nine place settings dedicated to prominent women throughout history and an additional 999 names are inscribed on the table's glazed porcelain brick base. Showing all the women who have accomplished something big in the past.
